How Can the United Nations Save the Planet When It Couldn’t Stop Saddam?

Author: Bill Watson

The 15th annual United Nations Climate Change Conference is taking place in Denmark. It would take a lot for me to believe the UN can do anything to stop global warming. During the 90′s the UN’s handling of Saddam Hussein illustrates their inability to deal with a threat.

After the Americans kicked Saddam out of Kuwait in 1991 (Gulf War), the UN took over the job of protecting the world from the Iraqi leader. They believed his lies and failed to have any successful weapons inspections in over 10 years. They proposed 16 different resolutions condemning Saddam with sanctions that did nothing to change his ways. Don’t forget that Saddam bilked the UN out of billions from the “Food for Oil” scam. Their failures would be humorous if not for the thousands of Iraqi citizens who died at the hands of Saddam. These horrors happened under the watchful eye of the UN. If the UN had done their Job, Iraq would have never been attacked by the Americans and tens of thousands of lives would have been saved. Not exactly a stellar performance by the UN.

Now, these are the guys to save us from the catastrophic results from man-made climate change? The greater castrophe would be handing our nation’s sovernignity and money over to the UN. That would leave this country in far worse shape than the harshest threats of climate change.

The UN’s plan for stopping global warming is simple. First, force the reduction of carbon emmissions through laws. Obama is already on board with this one. Second, transfer money from wealthier nations and give it to poorer nations to develop clean energy.

Let me deal with the money issue first. This makes my blood boil. I can’t believe that educated people buy this reasoning. We don’t use clean energy in America! As Bush said we are addicted to gas. Much of our energy is fueled by coal. All the money in America can’t create clean energy for under-developed nations.

Making laws to limit carbon emmisions is borderline insane. That’s like shooting yourself in the leg. Have we not suffered enough from a slow economy? Energy powers capitalism and the ability to make more and better things. Maybe you want to retreat to the days of covered wagons and outhouses, but I like technology and look forward to the next gadget. Capitalism will eventually find new and clean energy, but it can’t be forced.

The UN would like nothing more than having Americans submit to UN or world laws and transferring American wealth to them for redistributing. This may be the real issue. Global warming is their best chance for getting us under their thumbs.

We all want clean and green. I can’t wait for an energy company to offer an alternative energy that is clean, affordable, and even better than the fossil fuels.
